Charms are one of the oldest forms of jewelry to be worn by man. They probably started out as amulets for good luck or to ward off bad luck or spirits. The earliest ones would have been made of natural found materials such as shells, feathers, seeds, horn and bones. As time progressed they started to be made out of materials that could be sculpted such as clay, stone, gems, rock and later metal.Fish charms were worn by early Christians as a secret symbol of their faith, Acorns were used by witches as an identifying charm and Jews worn tiny pieces of jewish law or prayer inside an amulet.Actual charm bracelets were first worn by the ancient Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, and Hittites and began appearing from 600 – 400 BC.Queen Victorias love of charm bracelets made thems into a popular fashion accesory। After the death of Prince Albert she popularised mourning charms made using hair of the deceased, carved in black jet or with a miniature portrait of the departed sole.
The European charm bracelet as we know it today is a fairly thick snake chain style bracelet with interchangeable beads and charms that can be made of any material such as glass, china, silver or wood. These come in every conceivable colour and shape and are highly collectable.

Smiths Empire 5 jewelled gents watch made in 1956/7. This watch is in very good condition and you would not believe that it is over 50 years old. It comes on an expandable gold plated stainless steel bracelet strap which is also in very good condition. The case is 10 micron gold plate.

Timex watches

The Timex Camper is a new watch baseed on a 1918 design that was given to WW1 soldiers (this was the style of watch that made watch wearing for men the In Thing, up till then men had used pocket watches and only ladies wore a wrist watch). The slim design, tough resin case and mineral glass make it a very tough and durable watch. It comes on a strong nylon strap reminiscent of the original canvas strap. Water resistant to 30m means it is fine to get splashed but not for underwater swimming. As the name suggests this watch is ideal for camping and rugged outdoors pursuits.

Charms, charms, charms

We are branching out into the charms market, and there are so many to choose from. Our starting range are manufactured by Royal London and comprises of 26 Sterling silver charms that are all rhodium plated to prevent the problem of tarnishing.

The range includes several London themed charms such as a London Taxi, Bus, Big Ben and the London Eye. The others are a mix of themes including animals, wedding, gadgets and travel.More charms will be added to the range on a weekly basis and if there is a particular charm you are looking for and it is not in our range, please email us as we may be able to get it for you.

Latest vintage Ladies Smiths watch

We have just aquired a wonderfull vintage watch. It is a ladies jewelled lever watch, made by the Smiths watch company. The watch is estimated as being made in the late 1960's or early 70's. It has a beautiful face in a sunburst burgundy that lightens toward the centre and darkens to almost black at the edges. With gold hour markers and hands this really is a stunning little vintage watch.

The case is gold plated and in very good condition for a watch of this age. The gold plated bracelet strap matches well with the watch but may not be the original.
